blm14
Roxio's parent company got purchased by Rovi (http://www.rovicorp.com/), and I guess that rovi doesn't consider backup an important part of their business so retrospect is spinning off by itself. I imagine this process will take some time but ultimately be good for us because it will mean a restoration of the old Dantz family, and allow the engineers and all the staff to focus solely on retrospect instead of being a small cog in a big machine in a company with many other products. I'm optimistic, especially seeing a new 9.0 release for mac...
robvil
Hmm how many times shall Retrospect be spinned of ..... ? Seems like no one wants to own retrospect. Anyway going to www.retrospect.com only gives us a dns error saying the host does not exist (which is correct) as we cannot resolve www to anything. How smart is that! But http://cold-mountain-6475.herokuapp.com/ works Robert

jeffhoffman
After many years as a happy Dantz/Retrospect for Mac customer, I have endured nothing but problem after problem with Retrospect for Windows Multi-Server. I am dumping this product as soon as practically possible. The longest we've ever gone without a problem with the Windows version is 3 days. Grooming doesn't work, catalogs frequently get corrupted, assert failures galore (whatever those are...). This product is absolute garbage and I am replacing it as soon as our current license expires. I can't trust the product, and support is beyond awful. I don't care who owns it, it doesn't work properly.

This product is absolute garbage and I am replacing it as soon as our current license expires. I can't trust the product, and support is beyond awful. I don't care who owns it, it doesn't work properly. We've been using it since it first came out for the Windows environment in the late 90's. Beat out Backup Exec for simplicity, ease of use, hands down. I backup Macs and PC to a central Windows server for disaster recovery. If a machine goes down I can take a Retrospect Restore CD and get the dead machine backup and running in n hour. It has ample tape drive support and with the extra cost of add-ins, I can be backing up and duplicating 8 different processes at once. We suffer from the occasional assert error but I bet any competitors out there probably have similar issues. It has other quirks but in general I think it has held up well. Just discovered that it does not back up empty folders during a duplicating process which I use everyday. I'll have to find a workaround. Not sure there's a better product out there which is easy to use.
