3dcafa23-7ef9-46a6-abec-0b7dcb2a5c08
Hi All, Iam currently having a issue with Retrospect incremental backup. I configured two backup schedules (Daily backup) with tape drives and they are normal backups which means incremental backup in retrospect. Retrospect does incremental backup for Backup A, but it doesnt do incremental backup for Backup B whih has exactly same configuration as Backup A. I have no idea why this is happening... difference between backup A and B is a data size. Backup A has less than 100 GB but Backup B has 4.5TB... is there anyone who is successfully doing the incremental backup for a huge disk size more than 4 TB????????????? Please help me.. Thank you. Lennart_T
Are the sources about 4TB? And the total contents of Backup set A is just 100GB? A "normal" backup to Backup set A backs up the files that changed/added since the last backup to Backup set A. A "normal" backup to Backup set B backs up the files that changed/added since the last backup to Backup set B. Is there a huge difference in the schedule between the two? I mean backup set A once every three months vs. B running every day? Have you checked the backup set properties and noticed any differences? Both the "Snapshots" and "Sessions" panes can be of interest here. Check the scripts and see if the filters (Can't remember the proper name right now) are both set the same. For instance to "All files" or "All files except cache files".

There is one backup set for two backup source X and Y. so X and Y are being backed up to the same tape drive. However it is very strange that Retrospect does incremental backup ONLY for X but NOT for Y. I really cannot understand why this happens because the backup source X and Y both are being backed up to same destination by the same script, setting and option I attached two screenshot for detail. Thank you.
Lennart_T
What kind of files do you have under "Accounts"? Database files that changes all the time? Can you browse the files and see where they belong? Retrospect uses several matching criteria to find new or changed files. If one of the criteria has been changed, Retrospect will back up the file again. On Windows, Retrospect looks at creation date and time, modified date and time, size and name. If match only in same location option is set, Retrospect matches on the path, volume name and drive letter also. By default, the archive attribute is not used as a matching criteria in Windows, allowing for true and reliable backups to multiple backup sets. Yes, there is MYOB accounting database file which get changed all the time.. so this make retrospect do the full-backup everytime?? but it is stored in the sub-folder... May retrospect be able to change this folder only instead of doing full-backup??? Thank you for your response.

But if MYOB insists of modifying/creating 15000 files every day, then Retrospect must back them up. Did you browse any of the session where 15000 files were backed up to see what (and where) the files were?
blm14
Also you have to keep in mind that retrospect (to my eternal anger) doesn't do block-level backup. So if the timestamp on a file changes, retrospect backs up the entire file again, not just the changed sectors...
