Recommendations for a decently fast DVD drive for use with Retrospect

Recommended Posts

I apologize in advance if this is the wrong forum to post this in.

I'm looking for any recommendations for an external DVD writer that is natively supported by Retrospect, and is decently fast (16x write speed for DVDs, 40x write speed for CDs, supports DVD+R/-R/+RW/-RW, DVD+R DL/DVD-R DL and CD-R/CD-RW.)

The main thing (next to being natively supported by Retrospect with no custom configuration needed) is a drive that can support a high duty cycle. In lieu of tape, I'm using a DVD drive for backups, and I'm concerned about wearing out the drive by the sheer number of disks written/read to.

Thanks very much in advance.

Hi,

The device and hardware compatability forum for your operating system probably would have been a more appropriate location.

Honestly, I don't know if you will be able to find a burner for which Retrospect supports all types of media. You would be better off picking a brand/type of media and sticking with that. I can't really offer any advice as to which drives tend to hold together better, I only have one Plextor at home and haven't used too many other brands consistently.

You can use the driver release change log to determine what devices have been added as supported recently. You don't say what version you're using, so:

Win: http://kb.dantz.com/article.asp?article=7946&p=2

Good luck!
