I backed up data from Windows 2000 machine and want to put it on a Windows XP Professional machine

I have Retrospect 7.0 Professional. I have done a full back up of my computer with Windows 2000. I want to place all of the pertinent data on to Windows XP Professional. I have looked through the user guides with no avail. Has anyone done this and if so what steps should I take. I do not want to have 2000 operating system on the new machine, so I am lost as to the approriate steps.

Your best bet here would be to restore all the data you backed up to a new folder either on the system volume of your XP machine or another volume that is readily accessable from that machine, then move your data in to place manually.

Another option would be to use the File and Settings Transfer Wizard in XP. It can be run on the W2K machine to pick up files/settings and, then, to transfer them to your XP machine.
