bip
Hi The device support page says on the Pioneer DVR-109 drive that for faster performance DVD+R/RW discs is recommended for backup over DVR-R/RW. But how about a DVD-RW disk certified for 6X vs a DVD+RW for 4X? Has anyone tested on this or any other DVD drive? nekr0phage
Hi, DVD+ media will likely still be faster. When I switched from -R on my home machine to +R (same brand and speed) I saw a performance increase of roughly 400%.
bip
That is a dramatic increase. What drive was you using? I have tested the same way on my Pioneer DVR-109 drive with RW disks and the speed increase was just 17%. Maybe –RW discs rated at higher speed would actually outperform a lower speed +RW disc. Anybody tested this? Regards Berndt-Inge Petersson
nekr0phage
Hi, The increase is somewhat exaggerated. It felt much quicker because it allowed me to finish a backup within a day rather than over 2-3 days. I just went through my log files and found that the old performance with -R discs ranged from 150-250 MB/min. The new backup with +R ranges from 300-400 MB/min. My drive is an unsupported TDK DVDRW880N. I can't really say either way on R vs. RW, I've only used R so far.
