Autoloader magazine ejected after a cleaning operation

Recommended Posts

One of the tape unit we are using with Retrospect 6.5 Servers + Advanced Tape support is a Dell Powervault 120T DDS4 autoloader (with 8 slots removable magazine and slot 8 defined as the cleaning slot).

Each time a cleaning operation is triggered by Restrospect Backup (either automatically or manually by dragging the cleaning tape icon into the drive), the whole autoloader magazine is ejected just after the cleaning operation, and any further backup is not possible unless the magazine is manually reinserted into the tape unit.

Does anyone know if there is a way to avoid the ejection of the magazine after the cleaning operation?

It looks like it is the Retrospect software that command the ejection of the magazine after cleaning :

- if the cleaning operation is done manually from the control panel of the tape unit (by moving the cleaning tape from its slot to the drive), the magazine is not ejected at the end of the cleaning.

- before installing it on a server running Retrospect 6.5, the tape unit was installed on another server that was running another backup sofware, and the magazine was never ejected after cleaning.

Therefore, the ejection of the magazine after cleaning is not an "automatic" feature of the tape device,

With this problem, we are loosing all the benefits of the automatic cleaning feature of version 6.5 frown.gif .
