cmullins
I can't find any information on this error code or why the media is being erased. The backup starts but does not complete due to this error. I am assuming that the tape is getting full and then Retro erases it but I find it surprising that I can't find any info on this error message. I've looked in the Knowledge Base, read through the manual and searched the forums to no avail. Anyone?
nekr0phage
Hi, What operating system? What version of Retrospect? What kind of tape drive and how is it attached to the machine?
cmullins
I apologize, I figured no one had an answer and hadn't checked this in a while. Windows Server 2003 Ent. Retrospect Multi Server 6.5 for Windows Exabyte VXA-2 SCSI Thanks for the help. Chris
nekr0phage
Hi Chris, Is that a standalone drive or a library? What are the SCSI id's? Any other devices on the chain? Have you checked with Exabyte to see if there are any firmware updates available? I see a required version of 1001 and it looks like 2104 was current as of September 2004. cmullins
It is an Autoloader/Library. SCSI IDs - 4:0 Library 4:3 Drive There are three others that are internal: 0:0 CD_ROM 2:6 1x5 SCSI BP 7:0 PERCRAID I know that I've put a firmware update on the drive and library within the last 3 or 4 months. I'll check again for updates. Thanks, Chris
nekr0phage
Hi Chris, Since this is a library I would highly suggest reconfiguring the SCSI id's. Set the library to 5 and the tape drive to 2. Some people dismiss this as "SCSI Voodoo" but I've seen that make a difference far too many times to not mention it.
cmullins
I changed those IDs. I'll post tomorrow morning with the results. Thanks, Chris
cmullins
Well, I didn't get the media erased error but I got some bad backup set header errors on the First Storage Group on my Exchange Server. I'll see how it goes tonight... Thanks
cmullins
The media erased error was back again. I checked and there are firmware updates for both the packetloader (library) and tape drive. I updated the tape drive but am having difficulty getting the packetloader's firmware updated. nekr0phage
Hi Chris, Keep us posted whether or not those updates make any difference. You should probably also check to see if there is an update for your SCSI card available. Also, you don't actually say it, but is it safe to assume you've already run a few cleaning tapes? cmullins
Yeah, I run them about once a week if not more. I've definitely ran several since this began. That error isn't consistent (as in every backup). Thanks again, Chris
