ggreen
I am new to this forum so please excuse my ignorance.... I am thinking of buying a Maxtor One Touch which comes with Retrospect Express. Can I backup both my desktop and notebook computers using the script feature if they are connected on a home network? Seems like I could map a network drive and perform backups to both machines. Can anybody help me with this? Thanks in advance.
natew
Hi Not really. You would need to install the software on both machines and carry your drive back and forth. Have you considered using Retrospect Professional edition? It is designed to do exactly what you are talking about. Thanks Nate
ggreen
Thanks Nate, No, I didn't realize that Retrospect Professional would handle a home network backup. I checked out the price but at $92.95, I can buy my notebook it's own external hard drive.
natew
Hi True, but you would still need to manage backups from multiple machines. Retrospect lets you run all your backups from one central machine. Thanks Nate
ggreen
wouldn't I configure Retrospect Express to perform scheduled backups? Seems easy enough to "set it" and then "forget it". Other than the 20 minutes to install the SW and then configure it, I don't see a lot of time spent managing backups across 2 platforms. Anyways, I have a hard time justifying the cost. natew
Hi Yes but you would only be able to recover data files from the remote machine. You couldn't do a full disaster recovery including Windows and applications. Retrospect Professional gives you that ability. Thanks Nate
