daily, weekly and montly Backup

Hi,

 

I want to make Backups with tapes.

My Idea is

Week 1 monday-thursday a Standard Backup.

Week 2 monday-thursday a Standard Backup.

I would like to use the Backup Set from week 1 and use them in week 3, the Backup Set from week 2 use them in week 4 and so on.

On Friday I will use a 4 week Rotate full Backup. Every Friday a full Backup and keep the last one onside and recycle tape 1-3 and keep tape number 4 as a archive for every month.

Now my problem: I used 3 Backup sets for week A (4 Tapes ), week B (4 Tapes) and for friday (4 tapes + new tapes every mont). They are named for week 1: 1 week A, 2 week A, 3 week A, 4 week A. Now when I use them in week 3 again the first tape 1 week A will be accepted. The second Tape 2 week A will be not accepted until I delete it before use Retrospekt asks for 1 week A Tapes. "standard backup" and "full backup" are handled differently in Retrospect than you are probably used to.

 

How many tapes do you have? It sounds like you have 10 tapes...

 

Will a full backup fit on one tape?

i got 20 Tapes for Backup. I want to make incremental Backups on 4 tapes for each day one. On Friday I want to make a full Backup. This should be the basic for the following tapes.

 

Friday A = full Backup (basic for the mon-thu) incremental)

Wed A

Thu A

Friday B = full Backup (basic for the mon-thu) incremental)

Mon B

Tue B

Wed B

Thu B

Friday C = full Backup (basic for the mon-thu) incremental)

Friday D = full Backup (basic for the mon-thu) incremental)

Now i got for each Tape a backup set and it writes every day a full backup on it.
