rsmithnj
is it possible to back up a full backup to an external hard drive.....then do incrementals daily to a removable drive?.....such as a peerless system? I know retrospect does incremental automatically.....but does it do it auto from one backup set to another?
Mayoff
You can not mix a hard drive (file) and a removable disk into a single backup set. You would need a backup set for each device type.
rsmithnj
OK....Can a full backup be done to the external drive, and subsequent incrementals to the peerless?
barshatzky
I think that I have a similar question, which might help get to a "fundamental rule". Tried this last night, and it failed, so hoping to get to the bottom of it: I would like to perform a recycle backup for Backup Set A to tape on Day #1, followed by normal backups for the same Backup Set A to CDR on days #2-6. Is this doable? Or is the rule that a backup set can only be for one type of media? if this is not directly possible, is there something I can do, via the tools available, to achieve the same affect? In terms of the numbers, assume that on my systems, a recycle backup would fill up 1 tape, and a week of normal (incremental) backups would fill up one CDR. Thanks for your help. -- HB
rsmithnj
i GUESS THAT THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE WITH THE DANTZ PRODUCT, BUT I HAVE FOUND THAT MICROSOFT BACKUP DOES IT JUST FINE. i AM USING XP, SO MS BACKUP MAY BE DIFF THAN ANOTHER VERSION OF WINDOWS.
