xymotic
Hi All, I get the error (in the subject line) when trying to backup an xserve running OSX to retrospect on Win XP. The retrospect machine has a gig of ram, and the xserve has a gig and a half. any ideas on the cause or a resolution? here's some more detail from the log: TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(368.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 TMemorymhalloc: VirtualAlloc(367.5 M, MEM_RESERVE) failed, error 8 Scanning incomplete, error -625 (not enough memory) 11/24/2003 4:24:47 PM: Execution incomplete Total duration: 00:43:23 (00:41:28 idle/loading/preparing)
natew
Hi Are you able to backup separate sub volumes on the Xserve? What other applications are running on the XP machine? How much disk space is available on the XP machine? Thanks Nate
xymotic
the xserve has two volumes, both exhibit this behavior. Reading through previous posts on this subject seems to indicate this is an issue with the number of files on the volume. one drive has 2+ Million files, the other does not, but there's a symlink to the first drive. So I'm thinking that this is likely the issue. The xserve contains an image archive of homes for sale in Seattle, and it goes back several years. I had been thinking of changing the process to only include the current homes for sale, not the old ones, so I think I will do that and see if fewer files=no error. I sure do hope that Dantz fixes this though, in the days of Unix and terrabyte raid arrays, a couple million files isn't really all that many
