thecomputerguy
It's time to upgrade my backup server and I've got my eye on the new Apple PowerMac G5. Question is: How much RAM should I spec the machine with? 512MB? 1024MB? If Retrospect 5 will benefit from the additional memory, then I will spring for it. Currently, my backup system is a Blue&White G3-350 and a Sony AIT 2 tape drive. I incrementally backup around 100 machines here in the building every night and my storage set catalogs are weighing in at around 800MB a piece. The poor G3 is chewing hard on them trying to match up its files. Any suggestions?
Mayoff
With any computer, buy as much RAM as you can afford. Even if you don't use it today, you might need it in a few months.
