desktop hang: bug or feature

Recommended Posts

I've noticed (and been rather aggravated by) Retrospect completely taking over the machine whenever the backup server starts to back up a client. When it does this, it truly takes over - keystrokes are lost, the screen freezes (including the menubar clock), and absolutely nothing responds.

Is this a Mac OS X bug (it could be, because unix is not supposed to behave this way), a Retrospect bug, or something completely necessary for Retrospect to run properly? I run the workgroup server on my day-to-day work machine, and it can be truly annoying to be typing along, not watching the screen, only to find a huge chuck of text missing.

Yes, I know I'm supposed to have a dedicated machine for the server, but such luxuries aren't available here.
