duplicate proactive script locks catalog

Recommended Posts

Retrospect 8.1.148.1. OSX 10.5.7 on Intel Mac. (i believe have seen on macbook pro too).

each machine retrospect runs on has multiple disks. the machines use a proactive backup script to back up to a file dataset. the proactive script is active between 10:59 pm and 6 am.

the behavior of a proactive script seems to be that it will "split" into multiple backups based on the number of source disks to process.

occasionally, the proactive script will kick off twice against the same source and destination dataset. the two running scripts end up locking eachother out. (they may also corrupt the backup set--not sure about that). the scripts will not stop--to get out of the loop, i have to restart the machine. when i found it today, the scripts were still running at 10 am, clearly outside the proactive run window.

seems to happen if for some reason a proactive script did not run because the computer was not on. also seems to happen if a regular script is running at the time when a proactive script is supposed to become active.
