boegly
I have a tape with no directory and I would like to recatalogue and probably recover the information off of it. It has data on it, but there is no directory for it or backup set or anything to tell Retrospect what's on it, even though it was created in Retrospect (6) for Mac. How can I retrieve the data? thanks, greg
rhwalker
Using Retrospect 6.1, Tools > Repair > Rebuild from tapes See the Users Guide if you need a greater explanation. There is never a "directory" on Retrospect tapes; that's the function of the "catalog", which is not stored on the tape. You will not be able to retrieve the data unless you first have a catalog for that backup set, so you need to rebuild the catalog using the instructions above. boegly
What if I only have 1 of a 5 tape set? thanks, greg
Lennart_T
If you are SURE the files you need are on that tape, recatalog that tape and restore from it. You may have to set the other tapes as "Missing" if/when Retrospect prompts for those tapes. When you get hold of the other tapes, start over with recataloging all tapes.
