jaffe001 Posted August 2, 2009 Report Share Posted August 2, 2009 I have Mac OS 10.5.7 with Retrospect 6.1.230 and Windows client 7.6 on a PC running Windows XP. When I backup the files on the Windows machine to an external hard drive controlled by the Mac Retrospect 6.1.230, a large number of my Powerpoint files do not transfer, and end up as execution errors, whereas most of my other files transfer without execution errors. Presumably something is corrupted to prevent all of my Powerpoint files from being backed up. Any ideas on how to find out what the problem is? IIRC, when a Macintosh file is copied to a Windows formatted disk, the resource fork is written to a similarly named hidden file. In addition, another hidden file, ._.DS_Store, is created to store the resource fork information. I believe Retrospect is smart enough to look for the ._.DS_Store file and if it sees it, start looking for resource fork files for all the visible files. If I'm remembering it correctly and these were once Macintosh files (it may be as simple as the presence of the ._.DS_Store to trigger it), the "missing" files may actually be the resource fork files which these days is probably not needed. I think I stopped the problem by deleting the ._.DS_Store files which for my situation, were not needed. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The majority of these files were once on a Macintosh. where do I look for the hidden ._. DS_Store files so that I can delete them?
