Hi all,

Running Retrospect Backup Single Server V 6.5.343 on Windows 2003 server backup Mac and PCs.

One of the iMAc "Intel" is not getting backed up.

The iMAC has already on it's max 2gig ram and also running Parallel on it.

Here is the error that I'm getting:

Is this means that the iMAC need more RAM?

Thanks in advance,

Yes. You are putting a heavy load on the iMac.

(1) You are running Mac OS X, which takes, oh, say, 512 MB or more

(2) You are running Parallels with Windows, which takes, oh, say, 1 GB for both

(3) You are running Retrospect client, which takes, oh, say, 512 MB to 1 GB if you have a lot of files to back up

(4) Retrospect on Intel Macs is emulated using Rosetta (because Retrospect is PPC code, not Universal Binary), and Rosetta takes, oh, say, 512 MB

Run the Activity Monitor (in /Applications/Utilities on the iMac) so you can see where all the memory is being used. There is a remote possibility that the disk is too full so that the VM paging file can't be made large enough. A unix filesystem should not be more than 85% or so full. Check the empty space on your disk.

Are you sure that the iMac has a maximum of 2 GB possible? Sure it won't take more if you use bigger DIMMs?

Try it without Parallels running, that will answer your question.

On the other hand, it could be that it's a bogus memory error on the server. Try rebooting the server and see if the error goes away. Or could even be a bogus memory error and not related to memory, but to a problem on the client's hard disk. Try booting from the CD and running the disk utility. I just recently came across a Mac client with this error on just one volume and it was due to disk corruption.
