Retrospect thinks my DVD drive is write-protected

I'm evaluating Retrospect Professional 7.5, Windows XP Home. When I start the backup, a box comes up telling me to select a new disk. I had run the configuration dialog earlier to add mydrive to the list of devices.

I'm seeing a list that has a device called "LITE-ON DVD+R - RDI", and under that an indented line that says "custom configuration test disk". The status is write protected.

I am using a blank disk - why does it think it is write protected?
