ChenReed
I was wondering what the best configuration is for off-site backups that are rotated weekly. Right now, we have two external HDDs that are Backup Set A and Backup Set B and the schedule backs up to A on week 1 and B on week 2 and so on and so forth... Problem is, if Jimmy in Sydney forgets to switch the drives over on Monday, the system grinds to a halt until the drive gets switched. If Jimmy skips a week, then there won't be any backups until I go into Retrospect to removed the queued backups from the week before! Should I make both drives part of the same backup set? How will they cope with being off-site for a week if I do? Thanks for any help...
Scillonian
If you are using a Proactive Backup script you can add multiple Backup Sets as destinations and Retrospect will use whichever is available when the script runs.
Lennart_T
Set up email notification and you will get a message "Waiting for media" if/when Jimmy forgets to change drives. Or do as Scillonian writes: Use proactive backup.
ChenReed
Thanks for the advice I didn't fully understand how Proactive Backup worked. I'm converting my scripts now!
