Scillonian
Was the SYSTEM_DRV partition created by you or was it created by the system manufacturer? (It is not the size I would expect for a standard Windows install.) It looks to me as if something about this partition is causing VSS problems. Manufacturers often do odd things with these partitions that can cause problems. The 1019MB unallocated space at the start of the drive also looks a bit strange. The System_DRV partition was created by Windows 7 install. Not my be. The Unallocate space on Disk 2 is part of a RAM drive. I am only trying to run a backup of C:\Windows7_OS which should include *:System_drv in order to be able to successfully do a restore. Scillonian
In all the installs of Windows 7 I have done (retail and Dell OEM) that partition is either 100 or 200MB in size with around 20 to 30 MB used.
Lucky_Phil
I get the same error on my ASUS Laptop. Windows 8 64 bit All the VSS writers report stable no errors with a list writers command. All the drives are reporting zero errors. Using Retrospect Professional version 8.5.0 (136) It's just a mystery why this error keeps coming up. + Normal backup using Backup C at 26/01/2014 10:00 AM To Backup Set Backup Set C... Scillonian
If your laptop is EFI based then the following Knowledge Base article may apply: ASR Writer Backup Failed Created on January 31, 2013 When doing a backup of a Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 2008 server, Retrospect may report the following error: Writer "ASR Writer" backup failed, error -1001 ( unknown Windows OS error). If you have a PC with an EFI Motherboard, Retrospect will be unable to back up the ASR Writer, which is part of your Windows system state. We are looking into this problem and plan to offer a long term solution in a future Retrospect update. In the event of a system crash, you would need to perform a "live restore" of the operating system rather then use the Retrospect Disaster Recovery disk. To do a live restore, you would do the following: 1) Reinstall Windows 2) Install Retrospect or Retrospect client 3) Click on Restore>Restore>Switch to Advanced Mode>Restore an Entire Volume
Lucky_Phil
Yes Scillonian, my Laptop is EFI based. Thanks for the information you posted. Seems I will just have to wait for a future fix to this then. Cheers.
