Still no wildcard unix path selectors?

Recommended Posts

I was excited to see that selectors had been enhanced in 6.0, but then disappointed when I grabbed the trial.

Unless I'm missing something, full path selectors are still impossible to write if you a) sometimes backup /Users and sometimes backup the entire disk, because the "volume" needs to start the path and B) cannot have wild cards.

What I want to do is match

/Users/*/Music/*

/Users/*/tmp/*

I don't want to create a selector for every user, nor one with each volume/subvolume at the start of the path.

(And for the music case I don't want to rely on file type - there could be sound files in application packages, garage band packages, etc. that need to be backed up.)

Is this impossible, or is there a straight forward way to do this?

Jim
