ggirao
Yesterday I got this error (Media error, clean tape, etc). Strange: Retro added a new tape to a media set (the one that manage de error); 1 Backup was skipped (i swear, i saw it starting, but on next day nothing shows on activity. And now i'm trying to clean tape head, but when I move the cleaning tape it keeps saying Pending !Device trouble: "#######", error -206 ( drive reported a failure: dirty heads, bad media, etc.) Additional error information for device "IBM Ultrium 4 DC" [0:0], Sense > f0 00 03 00 00 00 01 58 00 00 00 00 14 00 36 00 63 53 (吀瀰翿 |吀瀰翿 |吀瀰翿 ) Any ideas how to solve cleaning? Don Lee
The garbage in the error message looks mighty familiar - much like what I see from my USB-connected DDS tape drive on errors.

The -206 error is generated by the tape drive, not Retrospect. It may mean dirty heads or a bad tape. It also may mean that the drive itself is failing. It sounds like you're using a tape library. Is that correct? When you say that it keeps saying "Pending," what is "it?" The Retrospect console? In what window? Perhaps you're also experiencing problems with your tape library. ggirao
Yes I have a tape Library, And this tape that did an error is about 1-2 months old. Not sure about the tape library, but now I feel the heads must be clean for sure. this message apeeras when I try to move the cleaning tape
