David123
Hello, Is it possible to rebuild a catalog without using all the tapes, but only a few selected ones? The person who started the catalog at work didn't know it was better to only have a few members on the backup set. So now, we have way to many tapes on our backup set. I want to know if it is possible to rebuild a catalog using, for example tapes 1 to 10, or 10 to 20. Thank you!
Lennart_T
If "fast catalog rebuild" is enabled for the backup set, you only need the last tape. If not enabled, you can just say "missing" when Retrospect request a tape. But I don't really see the point in rebuilding just half of the tapes. Why not do all of them once and safely store the catalog file.
David123
I will try using the missing. I have trouble restoring from the early tapes that we have, and since we have a huge number of tapes on that backup set, I cannot afford to rebuild the entire catalog as it would take too long. I am not even sure that rebuilding is gonna work, but so far it's the only option that I can think of. Thank you for your answer.
