tomnibus Posted April 4, 2006 Report Share Posted April 4, 2006 I've got two separate backups one at work and one at home. And I need suggestions for both. First, and this probably belongs in tech support. I find that when I'm doing massive amounts of data backups to my FW hard drive at home, it will fail with 'bad heads'. I've tried several different drives and new cables. It seems to happen when I make the FW drive the full backup set, but it doesn't happen when I format the drives and configure a backup file. Anyway, Here's my home configuration: Retrospect 6.1 latest. * 2 Firewire Drives @ 120GB a piece. Work is: Retrospect 6.1 Latest * 1TB XServe RAID Right now I simply do a full backup (recycle) every two weeks and incrementals (normal) daily. Then at the end of two weeks, it's reset and it starts over. So, I don't have anything more than two weeks old. In fact, if I happen to need to need an old file on a Monday after a recycle backup, I'm screwed. I think perhaps I should have it do four weeks (I have never had to go back farther than that, ever) where the two individual weeks leap-frog over each other. What is your opinion?
