redleader
Hello, could someone advise me on what the -5000 error may be below. The Mac OS X Server 10.7.3 on a Mac Pro is working fine with all these files on this external Lacie 8TB Enterprise Raid 'CORE RAID 2', seems to only be Retrospect with the problem. Lennart_T
-5000 is a file sharing permissions error. Your RAID disk isn't mounted with full permissions. See pages 83-84 in Retrospect's User Guide.
redleader
Thanks, which version of the User Guide ? Retrospect 9 ships with v8 User Guide + v9 Addendum, and pages 83-84 in the v8 User Guide refer to NAS. Screenshot FYI
Lennart_T
OK, the RAID is a local drive, not a network share. (It was the Retro 8 User Guide I was referring to. But -5000 is still a permissions error. So there are some folders (or files) where the Retrospect Engine doesn't have the permissions to access. afpAccessDenied = -5000, /* Insufficient access privileges for operation */ http://www.koders.co...26BC547310.aspx
redleader
I have noticed an anomaly, using Server Admin 10.6.latest, that reported 'unknown' ownership of the root drives. Though it said this for both EXT HD's, and one is actually being backed up fine :-( Confusing. I have updated these to reflect the same as another working 10.6 OS X Server with Retrospect 9 and the same Lacie Drives and propagated those permissions. We will see what Fridays nights backup report. I also have Tickets submitted for Lacie & Apple support too... Thank you,
redleader
The backups ran again last night and we still have the -5000 error on just one drive :-( - 27/07/2012 01:08:32: Copying CORE RAID 2 MapError: unknown Mac error -5000 ...etc... Any other solutions please ?
Lennart_T
Like I wrote, you have a permissions problem somewhere on "one drive". If you have a small number of folders, open each and every one of them in Finder (on the Retrospect Engine computer) and see if you are allowed to. You can also try OmniDiskSweeper, a free program that scans the entire drive and presents the folder by size in bytes. Can it scan the whole drive? http://www.omnigroup.com/products/omnidisksweeper/
CallMeDave
- Can you define a folder on CORE RAID 2 as a Favorite? - Can Retrospect scan/backup that Favorite?

redleader
Well ... I've had to move quickly on to ensure backup and security, so, I ... I installed a copy of Retrospect 9 I set the Hard Drives to 'ignore permissions' I'm not sure which of those actions solved it. I think it was reinstalling Retrospect, as the Server and OS X users privileges were all working fine when Retrospect backups were not. I'm unsure actually if it was referring to the Ext HD's -5000 or the Retrospect backup snaphot 'files' -5000 TBH :-O So far (day 2 of 3) it's still backing up, FYI. Lennart_T
I set the Hard Drives to 'ignore permissions'Do you mean "Ignore ownership on this volume"? I'm not sure which of those actions solved it.I think it was reinstalling Retrospect, as the Server and OS X users privileges were all working fine when Retrospect backups were not. I think the "Ignore ownership..." solved it, since Retrospect wasn't allowed to access the files/folders on the drive. Feel free to experiment: Uncheck the "Ignore ownership", run a backup and see what happens. But on the other hand, the ownership may have been wiped out when you checked the checkbox, so it will be correct now.
redleader
Do you mean "Ignore ownership on this volume"? Yes, sorry, just busy when replying :-O I think the "Ignore ownership..." solved it, since Retrospect wasn't allowed to access the files/folders on the drive. Feel free to experiment: Uncheck the "Ignore ownership", run a backup and see what happens. But on the other hand, the ownership may have been wiped out when you checked the checkbox, so it will be correct now. Yes, my next backup I will turn off [untick] the "Ignore ownership" and reboot first.
