Still doesn't see CRX155E

Recommended Posts

Finally an update - but Retrospect is still not seeing my internal CRX 155E drive on my 733 Quicksilver running 9.2, Retrospect 4.3, the new update and Apple Authoring Support 1.15. Any other ideas out there? Any drivers or extensions that are interfering with drive recognition such as Disk Burner?

To back up to supported Apple internal CD-RW drives, you need one of the following:

-Apple’s SDAP Authoring Support (included with Mac OS 9.2.1 or later)

-OR-

- Roxio’s Toast CD Reader 5.0.2 (an update to Toast 5.0 and 5.0.1)

-OR-

- Apple’s Authoring Support 1.1.3 (available via the Software Update Control Panel) and Mac OS 9.1

You also need both the latest Retrospect Driver Update and the Retrospect SDAP Support 1.2 extension. If you have older versions of these files, the current versions can be obtained from the Dantz web site at

If you do not have the Retrospect Driver Update 2.2 or later, you may download it from

Extensions Combinations

There are three combinations of extensions that will allow Retrospect to support ATAPI CD-RW drives shipping in Apple computers. The first is the Apple package of extensions installed by Mac OS 9.2.1. The second is the Roxio Toast 5.0.2 package. The third is Mac OS 9.1 with Apple Authoring Support 1.1.3 installed.

If you have Toast 5.0 or 5.0.1, please go to www.roxio.com to obtain an update to Toast 5.0.2.

Additional Troubleshooting

Check to see if the CD-RW device is visible in the Device Status section of the storage devices window. If the RDU did not properly load for the device or the device is not yet supported, the "driver" will be ".sdapStubDrvr." If the drive is listed as supported, but this is the driver that is loaded, then RDU 2.2 or later is not loading properly.

If Apple System Profiler cannot see the CD-RW drive on the IDE bus, then there is a hardware issue. Make sure that all IDE cables and power connectors are properly fastened in the computer. For further assistance troubleshooting a hardware problem of this nature, contact the manufacturer of the drive.
