cgtyoder
Hello All: Running Retrospect Single Server 7.6.123, D.U. 7.6.2.101 on a Dell PowerEdge 600SC server, Windows Server 2003 SP2. I am backing up to a Seagate DAT DDS4 tape drive. I have been getting more than normal "dirty heads/bad media" errors lately. I have replaced a couple tapes in the last month. The current set of tapes is several years old, so I am wondering if it is indeed a tape problem, or if the drive is going south. Here is the output from the log of a recent run: - 4/26/2009 7:38:26 PM: Copying Local Disk (C:) Additional error information for device "Seagate DAT DDS-DC" [2:6], Sense > 70 00 03 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 50 01 (SEAGATE |DAT 9SP40-052|912L) Trouble writing: "1-Friday Encr" (10027008), error -206 (drive reported a failure: dirty heads, bad media, etc.) Can anyone decipher the error to let me know exactly what is not working here - the tape or the drive itself? TIA.
Mayoff
This is a hardware error reported by the tape drive. Have you tried cleaning the tape heads? I would try a NEW tape.
cgtyoder
Yes, I have cleaned the heads, but still get the error. I will purchase some new tapes and see what happens.

cgtyoder
I purchased new tapes, and that fixed the problem. Thanks for the assistance.
