Auto Backup Does Not Work

I am using Retrospect Pro 7.5.512 (beta) on Vista Ult 64 SP1.

I am backing up to a WHS device (if that matters).

When I run a script logged in as me, it works great.

However, when I run a scheduled script, it launches as SYSTEM and hangs.

I have set a timeout of 1 minute.

I launch retrospect and it asks me to log off the other user.

I do that and and I get the following error:

Copying Content on Local Disk (C:)

The Backup Set member "1-Backup Set C" is corrupt or has data from another set.

Media request for "1-Backup Set C" timed out after waiting 0:01:00

I am logged on as an admin acct.

The options to launch retrospect under:

exectution/security "run retrospec as ..." are greyed out.

Any ideas?

The only solution is to keep retrospect launched at all times.

Ok, I did that. Hopefully it will work later.

On a similar note, it asked for a password for the backup volume. There is no password required.

From what I can tell - If I run the backup manually, it works.

Autobackups do not work well. This is curious since I have used retrospec for a couple of years and have not had any issues until recently.

Is this a Vista64 issue? That is only real new variable in my setup.

Well the backup still doesnt work. If I have retrospec running it tries to do the autobackup, but it hangs with no error.

If the system launches the backup, it will hang until I kill the process thread. Again, no error or log in the database file.

Any ideas?

I actually see nothing.. The history log shows a performance of 0.0 and lepased time of 00:00:00. The only error I see is in the event log where it says execution terminated unexpectedly, possibily due to a power failure or system crash.

Well these are unattended backups, ie auto scheduled.

I try to launch retrospec and it tells me a process is running.

Also I can tell that nothing has written becuase i check where the backups are located and nothing new was written.

From the Read me:

Automated Operations: When Retrospect automatically launches on Windows Vista, the application window is hidden. If an operation is running and Retrospect is manually launched an alert is displayed warning that an operation is in progress. You are then able to close the alert and let the operation continue or stop the operation and show the Retrospect window.

I suspect you have a media request dialog that is stopping the backup, you just can't see it.

Manually launch Retrospect. Leave it running for the next scheduled backup, and watch what it does.

Robin

Here is more information:.

1. If I reboot the computer, auto backups always work the next day.

2. Most of the time they do not work the next day, or the next day.

3. No error message is ever generated.

4. If I run auto vs having the client up when the scheduled backup is supposed to run -- it makes no difference. Still no error.

Case in point. I have the client up, and it just says "Preparing for Autobackup" It has said that for 6 1/2 hours! It is hung. I have to kill the process in the task manager.

When I relaunch retrospect, and do a manual run command - works just fine.

Now what ??

Well retrospect does automatically open, it launches the backup operation. (I have it set at midnight). However it hangs as if its waiting for something. No message is ever displayed.

I have retrospec on 3 pcs. It hangs on the PC #1 (the main one- it never gets to the others).
