echeng
I just purchased a VXA-1 firewire with Retrospect 5.6 Desktop Backup. I installed the v3.1 update (which is confirmed in the Retrospect logs), but my firewire drive isn't recognized by Retrospect. In fact, when it is plugged into my machine, nothing happens. Usually, Windows at least recognizes that a new device has been connected. My other firewire devices seem to work fine. I've confirmed this on two machines (plugging in does nothing). Is there a trick to getting Retrospect to recognize my new tape drive? Thanks...
lv2ski
First of all, does your Windows OS see the drive? That is #1.
echeng
Hi, Melissa - Windows XP does not see the drive. That is why I think it is a hardware problem. I keep my machine up to date, and have not had peripheral problems in the past! It is very difficult to get through to Exabyte customer service, though. ANy tips? thanks! lv2ski
We can't do much until the OS sees the drive. You will have to contact their TS dept and get help with this. I am sorry we don't have any suggestions to offer.
echeng
Thanks for your help. I got a replacement drive, and Retrospect now recognizes the drive. I installed the latest Win XP drivers from Exabyte.com, and things seem to be working. However, it seems that verification fails after large backups -- a popup appears with an error, afterwards. I also have problems (long pauses) when switching between the Retrospect application tabs. The log file shows this: ! 8/16/2002 11:04 AM: Manual erase of tape "1-Test Backup" windSetup: EnableMenuItem failed: 0. windSetup: EnableMenuItem failed: 0. windSetup: EnableMenuItem failed: 0. windSetup: EnableMenuItem failed: 0. + Executing Immediate Backup at 8/16/2002 11:13 AM To backup set Life - Vol 1... - 8/16/2002 11:13:34 AM: Copying Life - Vol 1 on Data (D:) + Retrospect version 5.6.132 Launched at 8/18/2002 3:47 PM + Retrospect Driver Update, version 3.1.103 windSetup: EnableMenuItem failed: 0. windSetup: EnableMenuItem failed: 0. The "Life - Vol 1" backup is about 30 GB. The files seem to be there, and they restore properly, but the error popup is a little disconcerting. And tips? thanks again!
