reloading OS

Recommended Posts

Because of frequent interruptions (system freezeup, freeze on shutdown and start, blue screens) with Win 98 it has been suggested I reformat the HD and reload Win 98 SE.

Could someone kindly offer the best procedure to follow.

My sytem has been duplicated using the Retrospect backup to an external HD.

After reformating and restoring with the Compaq QuickRestore how do I prevent those files that are the troublemakers from be restored also?

You posted this to the wrong forum... However, it sounds as if the problems that are plaguing your system may have been duplicated by Retrospect (that's one of the reasons it's best to use Retrospect's Progressive Backups). Therefore, before you do anything else you should make sure you have good backups of your important data-files on removable media. After formatting and reinstalling Windows from your recovery CD, be sure to download all Windows and IE updates! Then, I would recommend installing Anti-Virus and Spyware utilities on your system, making sure that those are also updated and maintained current! Finally, restore your data-files and you should be ok...
