Yps
Hi, I'm using WinXP SP1 and have a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4081B drive (firmware A101). My UDF (2.01) formated DVDRAM is not recognized by Retrospect 6.5.350. It has a letter in Windows Explorer, I can use it in Explorer, but under configuration > devices Retrospect says "incompatible device". It doesn't matter if DVDRAM is formated with WriteDVD, DVDForm or InCD. Since the device is not listed in the compatibility list I made an auto-configuration using a DVD+RW. Backing up with that was ok, but I would like to backup also to DVD-RAM. thx for any help Yps
AmyJ
It is not easy to switch between using the drive as DVD-RAM and DVD+R, or more correctly, it is not seamless. You will need to "Ignore" the device under Configure > Devices > Environment, right click on the drive and "Ignore" then quit/relaunch Retrospect in order use the DVD-RAM functionality. DVD-RAM drives use removable media and all access is done through the Operating System. The OS loads a device driver. DVD+R drives require Retrospect to load a driver, and only one program can load a driver at a given time. If you "Ignore" the drive Retrospect will not attempt to load a device driver. You can unignore it if you'd like to use the DVD+R ability in Retrospect.
