Audio Z
Hi, I work in a recording studio and we have been having problems lately with retrospect backup 5.0.205 on Mac OS 9.2.1 with a Quantum SDLT 220 machine. What happens is Retrospect asks for a new tape, saying the current one is full. In most instances, the program is right and the tape is effectively full. However, on 5 occasions in the last 6 months, it was wrong and the tape was 1/4 to 1/3 full only. Any attempt to backup anything in that particular backup set ends with the same message. This problem has occured while using 2 different brands of tape, so the cause being dropouts on the tape seems unlikely. The other two possible causes I see are eroneous EOD messages written by the drive or some kind of problem within Retrospect. Any suggestions are welcome, as tapes are really expensive and getting 1/4 of the normal use out of them is not financially viable. system fabrik
Hi Audio Z, did you try a 'long erase' lasting several hours? When I had a similar problem with some AIT-2 tapes it worked quite well.
