error -1111 (locked range conflict): solution

I'm pretty sure I mentioned this once before, but since it just came up again I thought I'd mention it again. Should probably be written up for the KB and linked to the error code list.


I have a client who periodically gets error -1111 (locked range conflict) when trying to back up her Outlook 2002 data files (*.pst). Retrospect can't read them when this error occurs. Outlook is NOT running.


The solution on now two occasions has been simply to compact the data files (File, Data file management, select the appropriate data file and click Settings, Compact Now).
