Error-100

tromble

Recommended Posts

I keep getting the error message: "Trouble writing media: "1-Backup Set CD error-100(device rejected command)" as retrospect starts to backup to my CD. I am using an HP CD Writer 8230e which is a supported device as near as I can tell. It shows up in devices window.

What should I try next that possibly will provide a solution? Any assistance will be much appreciated.

The reason I said "as near as I can tell", is that the installation CD that came with my CD writer is labeled 8220e/8230e installation disc. I rather assumed that there was little difference between the 8220e and 8230e since they both use the same installation disc. I know what they say about "Assume".

It will backup a few million bytes and then eject my cd with the error-100 message. I have tried some of the suggestions from the knowledgebase but so far have not hit the "mother-lode".

A few million bytes sounds like the size of a buffer... so it is quite possible that things are not working at all. There' a troubleshooting area on the HP site....

http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/documentIndex.jhtml?reg=&plc=&lc=en&cc=us&prodId=hpcdwriter22108&cat=solve&docparent=82201318&pagetype=82201317

Failing that then run through the usual suspects, try...

*different types of media capacities and sizes

* different manufacturers' media

* check/rejig/empty/reterminate the connx chain (?? USB, USB2, SCSI, FireWire or IDE ??)... If the manufacturer's Hardware Supported List says it isn't supported then that is usually the case... issues usually only arise when it says 'supported' and there are still operational issues;~)

* use a known-good connx cable

* make sure no other software is conflicting

* check your drive can burn whatever successfully using different software

* exchange your unit with one that is on the supported list.

* use another manufacturer's software to burn (preferably one those supported list includes your named drive)

You're pretty much swimming against the tide (aka you're on your own) attempting to successfully burn using an unsupported drive.

best wishes, Robert
