zamzmith
Retrospect Desktop 5.0.238 running on OS X 10.2 Retrospect client 5.0.540 running OS X 10.2.6 Client is pingable. The Retrospect help was no help. This hardware configuration has worked with earlier versions of OS and software.

Do you mean earlier versions of Mac OS X? OS 9 was a _different_ OS, not an earlier OS. - What _exactly_ are you doing and seeing? Dave

Yes, 10.1.5 but I've lost track of which Retrospects. > What _exactly_ are you doing and seeing? On the client I launch Retrospect client and click "On". It says, "Waiting for first access." It does *not* say Appletalk next to the version number. On the server I launch Retrospect Desktop, selecting the configure tab, clicking Clients (seeing "Not logged into any backup clients") clicking Network (TCP/IP and Mac OS X is selected) it searches the LAN for 10 seconds or so and says, "No clients found." I click Add by Address it says, "Send more money."

zamzmith
> Retrospect 5 has never supported AppleTalk. Why do you note this? The Retrospect help page says to double check that the word AppleTalk is not next to the version number, beats me. > Are the clients on the same subnet as the server? Yes but Retrospect may not think so. Allow me to explain. The server is also the internet connection for the LAN via the sharing control panel. So the server has two subnets, the one from the ISP and the 192.168.0.0 subnet that I created. Maybe this is confusing Retrospect, maybe it's looking out on the ISP's network only? Here dig this: [langate:~] samsmith% ifconfig ... en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1492 ... inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255 ether 00:50:e4:80:d9:75 media: autoselect (10baseT/UTP <half-duplex>) status: active supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> ppp0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1492 inet 67.116.53.25 --> 67.116.55.254 netmask 0xff000000
