dkwyman
I cannot find a way to gracefully terminate a manual device configuration: Retrospect loops around asking for samples of media "if necessary" and only offers a STOP button to exit from the process. However, if you use the STOP button, the routine seems to treat this as an abnormal event and enters a an error in the log file. The device config file is created but the device remains unuseable even with fresh media of the type tested, successfully (according to the earlier sections of the log). ( of course any media used during the configuration write tests must be discarded) I would like to correspond with someone who has succeeded in manually configuring a CD-R/CD-RW device. dkwyman
The problem has been resolved: The dialog requesting the insertion of media "if necessary" is confusing since it seems to offer the user some discretion as to whether the action is "necessary". Actually it should command, "Reinsert test media to advance to next configuration step." ... this repeats until the routine has completed its steps ... Only then does the routine offer to accept a new type of media or to exit (complete) the configuration. I was simply not patient enough since the process did not seem to be advancing. I was aborting the test of the first media type without understanding that configuration had not been completed for that media type. There is no granular progress indication at present but just a seemingly unending loop or insertion requests. Dantz has a tech note on line that has more detail than the Readme file that comes with v5.1 http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=28026 Thanks for your attention. Hope this was not a complete waste of time for you... Doug.
