bishopd
I found a bug reporting form on the site. Basically, I tried to do a verify on a data set. It endlessly checked disk 1 once it hit Remaining: 195757 files Completed: 44010 files Those counts stop, but the byte counters continue. The, remaining bytes, hits 0, and rolls over. This was tried several times on a few data sets. The backup media are DVD-RW. There are 3 disks in the set. The last log looks like this: Retrospect version 5.1.167 launched at 7/23/2003 12:05 PM + Executing Verify at 7/23/2003 12:05 PM To backup set Backup Set C Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 4194304) Backup set format inconsistency (5 at 4322100) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 5242880) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 6291456) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 7340032) Backup set format inconsistency (5 at 7467828) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 8388608) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 9437184) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 10485760) Backup set format inconsistency (5 at 10613556) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 11534336) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 12582912) Backup set format inconsistency (4 at 13631488) 7/23/2003 2:35:16 PM: Execution stopped by operator. It will be another couple of months before I can afford a FW HD ( only a little better than CDs and DVDs ). I'm still waiting for affordable MO technology capacity to catch up ( cartridge based - no surface contact problems and magnetic or laser on it's own can alter the data ).
