Issue with external USB (Error -1001 : Windows Retrospect Express 5.6)

Hello,

 

We are using an external Maxtor USB 2.0 80GB drive to backup up a Windows XP file server. The attempted backup set is "All Files" on drive C. The scheduled backups fail with error:

 

 

>Scanning incomplete, error -1001 (unknown Windows OS error)

 

It appears that the files that cause the failure are both system files (C:\windows\system32\*) and regular documents (that appear to be open on a networked machine during the backup)

 

Question: is Retrospect barfing when it encounters open files (shared ACT databases, Excel spreadsheets, etc) that are being used on networked computers? What is Error -1001? The Dantz website does not explain what exactly this error is.

This error can happen if Retrospect encounters a problem reading a file from the source volume.

 

Run a complete "Scan Disk" on the source volume to see if any disk problems are detected.
