increment
We have a fileserver that I have been backing up w/ Retrospect 4.3 for quite some time. It's running on an SGI, IRIX 6.5 so a direct backup is impossible. The problem is that not just ANY software can back it up correctly. Because it splits the resource fork and data fork when a file is copied to it the resource fork file and data file have to have the same time stamp no matter what. Backing it up w/ Retro 4.3 it worked great because it saw it as a regular mac share and the resource fork and data were merged back together during the backup. W/ Retro 6.5 this isn't possible directly. So we were thinking of setting up a mac client to mount the shares and backup them through the client. This works fine w/ the 4.3 client (i.e. macOS 8.6/9) but the OS X client doesn't show the shares. The /Volumes folder show's up but appears empty. Is there any way to make the OS X client show mounted shares to Retro 6.5 server? Is it a server side setting?
AmyJ
No, it is not possible to backup mounted shares through the Retrospect Client in OS X. OS X requires a different level of interaction with the network and has much more stringent access policies.
