sfisches
I want to do full backups every night Monday to Friday. Scheduled for 10:00p.m.. Overwrite whatever tape is in the drive. Require NO USER INPUT. Just overwrite the tape, whatever tape is in the drive. Retrospect always stops and asks the user to insert another tape. Please help. The owner of this drive is getting very frustrated. Thanks in advance. - Steve
AmyJ
Retrospect will not erase just any tape in the drive by design. In order for Retrospect to auomatically erase a tape, it must be a member of the backup set being recycled and it must be named correctly. For example, if you are recycling Backup Set A, Retrospect will automatically take a blank tape or the 1-Backup Set A tape that is associated with the catalog being recycled. A tape with the same name, but different creation date will not be automatically erased. See the following tutorial for a 5-day rotation script set up. In step 10 use Recycle backups rather then Normal. http://www.dantz.com/index.php3?SCREEN=kbase&ACTION=KBASE&id=27482 This will require the user to put the correct tape in on the correct day - eg: the Monday tape on Monday. If Retrospect is asking for another tape, make sure that it isn't asking for the _next_ tape, meaning the first tape has filled.
sfisches
Thank you for your reply. I have just purchased the upgrade to V6.5 Professional for Windows. Can I use these same instructions or do you have another link you can send me? Thanks again, Steve
