Long (?) and successful backup with 'error -3047' ...?

Recommended Posts

I am in trial mode. My Win2K machine has two disks (one with FAT32 and the other NTFS file systems).

I am trying to do the simple backup operation, only a folder, with several subfolders. Total size is ~50 MB.

A few questions:

o This backup process somehow takes 12 minutes to complete; why?

It happens only on this machine, regardless of the disk (FAT32 or NTFS) used as a

destination for the Backup Set.

o What does this error means and is it the caues of this problem?

Suggestions welcome. Below is attached the log info after the backup process is completed.

Try the following Registry edit and post results:

The registry key to change is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Roff\Paramaters

Replace all occurrences of "{windirplain}" with the appropriate Windows directory (most likely "winnt"). Also make sure that all double backslashes ("\\") are replaced by singles ("\"). A reboot is required to make this change effective.

I have changed suggested registry key. Its current form is:

\pagefile.sys

*\ntuser.dat

*\ntuser.dat.log

\System Volume Information\*

@\winnt\*

!@\winnt\profiles\*

*\usrclass.dat

\Program Files\Dell\OpenManage\Array Manage\*

\WINNT\system32\ServerAppliance\data\*

\Dell\KickStart\*

*\usrclass.dat.log

However, I do not see that this change fixes anything (see the detailed log below). Again, I was able to restore the whole directory (and subdirectories) in a few seconds (without any errors):

AmyC,

The problem is gone. I followed your suggestion and closed all applications and did some process-cleanup procedure. After I restarted the machine, both the backup and the restore procedures worked as expected.

I still do not what caused the problem. At this time, I have several applications opened and Retrospective is working smoothly. Therefore, I'm guessing that some of those 'services' or 'processes' that i have disabled/killed caused previous problems.

Thanks for the support and help smile.gif
