blaqb0x
Hi, I was curious. How many times do you guys recycle you media before you retire them? Does degaussing help in extending their quality over time.
huguley
When I was using DLT I could only reuse a tape once before they started going bad. I am using SDLT now and they seem much more reliable but out of habit I still do not use them more than 3 times.
drouk
I reuse DLT IIIxt and IV constantly (I'm probably in the hundreds of uses now), and have only had a few "go bad". A periodic degaussing makes the product as good as new. The HP website says of their DLT media: Quote: How long do DLT tapes last? Because of the tape and drive design, HP DLT tapes are tested for 500,000 head passes, over 10,000 cartridge uses, and have an archival life of 30 years
