My xServe hangs every hour with Retrospect Client started!?!??!

Recommended Posts

I have a xServe with xServe RAID 14x180 GB discs and a Retrospect Client installed on Mac OSX Server 1.2.5. And sometimes the server just hangs and I must hard reboot??

In my folder: library/logs/crashreporter/RetroRun.crash.log the following lines occur:

Command: RetroRun

PID: 198

Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001)

Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS (0x0001) at 0x0023a920

Is there anyone who knows what this is?

retrorun is the process that the Retrospect _application_ uses to schedule scripts; it is not part of the Client software.

- Is the Retrospect application running on this machine?

- How does the (exact) time of the crash log entry relate to the time the server becomes unresponsive?

- Do you have "restart after computer "freezes"" preference set in the Energy Saver preference pane?

- Is Retrospect scanning/backing up when it becomes unresponsive?

- If so, is it during scan, copy or compare?

- How many files are being backed up?

- What sort of backup device are you writing to?

- What are the symptoms of the server before you reboot it? Can you ssh into it?
