I am confused about scheduling backups. I am able to create the backup set, but am confused as to how the script will know exactly which files I want backed up. When I do an immediate backup, I can choose the files I want, but I don't see this option in automate. Can someone explain this to me? Also, I would like to set my network up so that when I plug my laptop, running client, into the network, it automatically begins the backup process.

For the script, to backup selected folders, you can create subvolumes and add selected subvolumes to your script:

If you are looking to back up a mix of files and folders across your computers, you'll need to create a selector.

Another option is to create a custom selector for an individual volume from a browser window. Go to Immediate > Backup and use Preview to mark files on a volume. Then use Browser > Highlight Marks > Save Highlights to save your selection criteria. This method will require a seperate selector and script for each volume being backed up.
