I’m using Mac OS X 10.2.5, Retrospect v5.0.238, RDU v3.4.103 and an external Quantum SDLT drive. I was using DLT IV tapes in a Windows machine running Backup Exec. Trying to format the tapes for reuse in the Mac SDLT drive yields this error - Couldn't erase tape, error 211 (media locked). No problems using SDLT tapes, just when I try to use these “used” DLT IV tapes. In the Retrospect/Devices window, the tape show a write protected lock and Content Unrecognized. Suggestions (clean tape drive, update Retrospect) in the FAQ and forum don’t work. I even tried first erasing the tapes using Backup Exec, but no luck.
