tslarkin
The Retrospect server runs in OS X 10.2.5. The Windows 2000 server has several Mac accessible volumes. These have been mounted on the desktop of the Retrospect server, and included from there in the script of the backup server. There are 2 problems. Retrospect is reporting "duplicate dirid" on the desktop mounted volumes. However, running Windows ScanDisk finds no problems; no sign of volume corruption. The duplicate dirid errors are consistent across repeated scans. Second, about a dozen (out of 60) non-empty folders on one of the shares are completely skipped. The mounted volumes are supposed to be backed up in toto, but these folders do not appear as being backed up in the backup report. However, if one of the skipped subdirectories is scanned from Immediate Backup, all files are detected and backed up. That is, subdirectory \\Sharepoint\Foo is not backed up if the backup source is \\Sharepoint, but it is backed up if the backup source is \\Sharepoint\Foo. Try a more roubust disk utility on the drive; Norton must make something that works on Windows Dave
tslarkin
- Exactly how have the volumes been mounted? They are mounted as AFP volumes. - Do you have any Selectors in the script? Yes, but the selectors do not exclude the contents of the directories. Also, the directories do backup correctly if they are selected as the sources; the problem only occurs when the parent directory is selected as the source. - Try a more roubust disk utility on the drive; Norton must make something that works on Windows Last time I looked, Norton does not have anything that works on NTFS. The ReadMe that comes with Retrospect contains specific information about how AFP volumes need to be mounted in order for their contents to be availalbe to Retrospect. Did you follow those steps? This may be a "Macintosh" duplicate dirid, so scandisk may not help. It has happened to me a couple of times. I didn't find an elegant solution, but a work-around that works for me is to manually create new folders, copy the contents across, and throw away the problem folders.
