Sandphil
The new driver (3.4.103) may be compatible with Hitachi’s GCA-4020B but only with firmware version D02F or later. My two month old iMac G4/800 has firmware version D02D. I am not able to back up to DVD’s, only CD’s. Dantz tells me there’s nothing they can do. Hitachi doesn’t even acknowledge the 4020 on their web site. Does anyone know how or where to get firmware upgrades? Phil
bbranch
I'm in the same boat -- firmware D02D on a four-month old G4/800MHz iMac. I've been beating my head against the wall for the last two days trying to get Express to work. This AM I found the driver updates, and Express finally recognized the SuperDrive, but it hangs up for about half an hour and then says "trouble communicating with device", error 102. I guess I'll have to buy a whole mess of CD-R discs. What a disappointment! I hope Dantz can release a fix for this. Or Hitachi.
bbranch
I suppose I can try doing it manually ... create a huge tar file and try to burn it to the DVD-R with the Finder. But then the incremental backup feature of Express won't work ... sigh.
