seaview
What is the best system to long term archive data? I have many floppy backups and Travan tapes that no longer work. Most of the old backup software just does not work under windows XP. I have been over time just getting bigger and bigger hard drives and restoring the backups to the newer drives and using the next backup technology. I have lost stuff over the time this way as you do when mucking around with a lot of copying of files and make a mistake. Often you only realise data is missing months or years latter. Will CDR backups last for long term reliability assuming you have software to read it. The software, media and drive with all the changing formats etc make full archival of data long-term a real issue. Will tapes demagnetise over time. Will you have a drive that can even work and read the tape in 10 or 20 years time? Hope this is appropriate in this forum. Thanks
