Duplication using a CD-R or DVD-R as my destination Volumn?

I am wondering if one can use the duplication function and use a CD-R or a DVD-R as my destination volumn. I inserted a CD-R for a test and when I get the window for the destination volumn I don't see the CD-R. I did a back-up using a CD-R and it worked fine so I know my CD-R / DVD-R device is compatible with Retrospect. I sure hope someone has a positive answer as I need to do duplication of large volumns of data onto

DVD-R's. I running Mac OS-X.
