dkabal
Moderators, please help me out.... Retrospect 6.0, newest drivers, newest updates. Windows XP Professional, newest updates. SONY DRU-500A, 1.0g firmware RITEK DVD+RW media DVD-R preparation takes about 15 seconds. DVD+RW preparation takes about 20 MINUTES ("Erasing media"). All indications point to a bug in Retrospect or Retropect's drivers, as every other program seems to be able to prepare DVD+RW media in about 10 seconds. AmyJ
Retrospect uses a long erase because not all drives properly erase in a short erase. Try high speed DVD-RW media to help speed up the process.
dkabal
Thanks. I am using 4x DVD+RW (the fastest, I think). Could you add an optional "quick-erase" to Retrospect. It seems to be a shame to buy 200 MB/min backup media, only to have the time saved in writing absorbed by the erase process. Can I pre-erase DVD+RW media, so that Retrospect doesn't take 20 min? AmyJ
Pre-erasing may save time.
dkabal
Pre-erased disks are not recognized by Retrospect ("Content unrecognized"), I still have to erase them, but it takes less time than before (isn't it silly that I have to do this?). Anyhow, thanks for the advice. Please, provide users the ability to do a "quick" erase in the next round.... Thanks, Dave
